What gives this shielding its protective properties?

The core of the shield is composed of multiple layers of high-tensile para-aramid fibers. Many refer to products like these generically as "Kevlar curtains" as BBP constructs the shielding using ballistic fabric made from DuPont™ Kevlar® fibers, which is then sourrounded by a polyester cover material to protect the fibers from the elements, and supplemented with additional nylon and polyester support materials as needed.

Is it really as easy to buy and install as you claim?

Specifying the product you want to purchase only requires a few measurements to be taken, which is not any more complex than what is encountered when purchasing custom window shades. Because the shielding is made entirely of fabric (the same materials used in military-grade body armor), the BBP shielding is significantly easier to work with than conventional ballistic materials such as fiberglass, glass, plastic, or steel, as it is a small fraction of their weight.  Additionally, the products feature a patented energy dissipation design that significantly reduces the stress transferred to the wall and frames when a bullet is caught, making the mounting requirements for the shielding surprisingly simple. For the door roll-ups, installation is as easy as installing a conventional window shade, and even easier for the door panels, as they bolt directly to the door itself—no modifications to the doors, frames, or walls ever required.

Great solution, but I don't have the budget for it. Are there any grants that can assist?

There are solutions for both public and private schools that are too budget-strained to afford investments in protective equipment.  An abundance of federal and state funding opportunities exist.  Visit our Grants page to find a comprehensive listing of various funding sources.

Isn't there a version that will stop rifle fire?

Unfortunately, no.  Due to the pointed tips of rifle rounds and their higher velocity, there is no fabric solution anywhere that can withstand rifle fire (such as .223 or 7.62).  Any solution that can withstand a rifle round will be made from rigid materials (and heavy).  If you truly need protection from rifle fire, please callus, and we will recommend several reliable suppliers of materials that meet your specific needs.
